Day 52: Star Wars Day

Cathy and I have been picking recipes out of a cookbook called "Galaxy's Edge". If you don't know, "Galaxy's Edge" is the Star Wars theme park in Disney World and Disneyland. In other words, it is somewhere you can no longer travel to, because the world is a strange, strange place now. But in lieu of actually going to Disney, you can at least cook the recipes.

On the cover recipe of this book is something called a Ronto Wrap. It is the signature dish of a restaurant called Ronto Roasters where a podracer engine hangs from the ceiling and cooks all the food. Yes, this is a restaurant you can actually go to. Last week Cathy and I tried the Ronto Wrap recipe which was tasty, but for Star Wars day (May the 4th), we picked three more recipes from the book.

1. Xizor Salad

This Salad is based on the character Prince Xizor from the novel "Shadows of the Empire". The name of the character is pronounced "she-zor" and so this is a play on Caesar Salad. It features parmesan cheese crisps, bacon and a Chadian dressing (which is mostly vinegar, blue cheese and food coloring).

This salad was actually phenomenal and the highlight of the meal. It may even be the best salad I've ever tasted in my life. The healthiness of such a salad is dubious since it's mostly just cheese, bacon, and iceberg lettuce.

2. Hutt Slime Pods

Jabba the Hutt is seen eating frogs in the film "Return of the Jedi", but it's not a stretch that he or his people would eat something called Slime Pods.

The dish is made with spinach, pistachios, avocado and Gnocchi. If you haven't heard of Gnocchi, it is a thick round dumpling pasta-thing from Italy.

Slime pods were weird- really weird. They tasted good, but the texture was bizarre and they were so heavy, I could only eat a quarter cup before I was full.

3. Coruscant Cooler

Cathy picked out this beverage from the dozen or so alcoholic drinks from the back of the cook book.

The Coruscant Cooler consists of cranberry juice, bourbon, lime, and sweet vermouth. It is quite tasty and blood red. I can imagine Emperor Palpatine sipping on such a cocktail while planning his dark deeds.

Happy Star Wars day, everyone!
May the 4th be With You!
