Day 11: Wood for Sheep

In college someone introduced me to the game Settlers of Catan. At the time the game was obscure in America. In Germany it was quite popular, and I discovered it for a second time while staying with my friend Oliver in Dusseldorf. Years later I discovered Catan for a third time, in China.

Every Sunday night Cathy and I would walk a few miles to our friend's (Grant & Paula) apartment. Each night we would play a slightly different version of Catan working through the expansions and campaigns. I would eagerly await Sundays. I even bought a large cooler bag to organize all my expansion packs to help transport them around the globe.

Now, in the States, I don't have a weekly Catan group. I usually end up playing with my siblings and relatives on holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. But for the most part there is a hole in my wellbeing- I miss weekly Catan.

I've slowly convinced my wife to play through a Catan campaign with me during our self-isolation. It is a 4-part campain called Legend of the Sea Robbers. Even though it is designed for 3-4 players, Cathy and I have been having a good time.

In other news, working from home is going well. I'm communicating with families and organizing lessons, worksheets, and videos for students. It hasn't been easy tracking down all of the families on my caseload. There are a few that I haven't been able to make contact with.

We are a little worried about Roland's lack of school and therapy. We are busy around the house and sometimes he gets ignored. He really needs outside help to keep active and entertained. We are worried he will lose some skills if he stops practicing. Autism is such a mystery.

Oh, one mishap this morning. I tried to make cinnamon toast this morning but mistook cumin for cinnamon and accidentally made cumin toast... Not great.

Keep safe out there, everyone!
