Day 5: Cold Calling

Today I turned my spare bedroom into a makeshift office. I had used sick days on Monday and Tuesday this week, so that I wouldn’t have to show up to work and risk being infection by COVID-19. However, today it was time to get back to work. My job over the next two months involves touching base with families- specifically by cold calling them and convincing them that I am not a telemarketer. And yet I am a telemarketer… a telemarketer for education.

 I did once have an actual cold call job and I was terrible at it. I hated following a script. I hated interrupting someone’s dinner or TV time. I hated taking advantage of old people by selling them fruit baskets. I expected to hate cold calling parents to ask if their children were doing their homework. But in the end it wasn’t so bad.

When Cathy got home from work we gave Roland a vest treatment. His vest is a purple life-preserver-looking-thing that inflates with air and jiggles. He doesn’t like it very much but today he tolerated it. We are supposed to do 12-minutes a day, but we aren’t always good at scheduling it into our routine. A lot of things have been easier to schedule lately. I no longer have any excuse to not clean the house or… floss.

 Cathy practiced her calligraphy during Roland’s vest treatment. She has been very into fountain pens and inks over the past several months. She calls it a lost art.

The board game today was Forbidden Island. Cathy and I worked together to collect the treasures of an island as it was slowly sinking into the sea. Fortunately, we escaped before succumbing to the flooding.
