Day 12: Welcome to the Apocalypse

Whilst reading Richard Matheson's 1954 novella "I am Legend" I couldn't help but noticing some familiar images. Schools start to close. People struggle to decide whether to keep going to work. Fear spreads. Rumors spread. Next thing you know... Vampire Apocalypse.

We all know Apocalypse stories. They've been around since the dawn of man. Since Ragnarök. Since Revelations. Since Romero.

But does our current situation really resemble a worldwide Apocalypse?
Well... kind of. The world is changing... has changed. And we can never go back again. Some events steer the course of history and whatever new world we step into after this epidemic is over- It's going to be different. It's going to be new.

In the meantime however there is nothing to do other than wait this thing out. For a lot of us that means consuming media and I thought if we are going to be consuming media, why not the Apocalypse kind? Some of us might never get the chance again to feel something close to what those characters are feeling (the ones stuck in a real Apocalypse). I made a list of stories and I sorted them categorically by genre and medium. So have fun.

In other news it's raining. And it's cold. So it's basically raining freezing cold water. But Roland wanted nothing but to go out into the rain this afternoon. We tried to reason with him but nothing worked, so we dressed him up and sent him out. He was overjoyed.
