Day 19: The Project

When we moved into our house there was a dog kennel on the back deck. We eventually sold the fencing then demolished the dog house. That left us with a small patio section that I wanted to expand.

Last summer "The Project" began. I bought new bricks for our patio to expand the area, then paid someone to put in some to build a border and bring in some sand. Eventually we realized that the new bricks were 1/16th of an inch larger than the old ones and we had to replace the old ones as well. I began laying the new patio bricks, but there were noticeable bulges, so I brought in my mother and brother to help out.

Weeks later we had something resembling a finished patio. We also poured a section of concrete in the Fall and then abandoned the project over the winter.

This afternoon was quite warm so I turned my attention back to "The Project". There were a few more bricks to lay down between our deck and the patio and there were a few screws that needed to be cut down to size. I finished the work and then cleaned the area up a bit. Now, I just need to build a step between the porch and the patio and "The Project" will be complete.

A little later in the Spring I will head to Lowe's or Menard's and buy a nice Gazebo so we can enjoy meals outside during summer. The area has come a long way since the doghouse and kennel.
