Day 30: An Update

It's been quite the week.

The Patio Project continued:

On Tuesday I went to Menards to buy supplies to build a step. My friend, Ben, sent me with a shopping list, but I wasn't very good at navigating Menards. I had to ask three different employees to help me find the "Triple Zinc Concealed Stringer Hanger." The third employee finally took it off of the shelf that I had been staring at for 30 minutes.

Then I had to order lumber at some desk in the back, and they gave me a receipt so that I could pay for the lumber up front and then I had to drive around back to a lumber yard and drive into a warehouse and park my car. It turns out the warehouse is like this whole other store that you have to walk through and it's still hard to find what you need. I'm not even making any of this up.

On Wednesday Ben came over and built the step. Then, on Friday the Gazebo came in the mail and I spent the majority of my day constructing it.

On Saturday we rested.

Cathy and I have been keeping ourselves entertained. A new board game called "Splendor" arrived in the mail. I'm looking forward to showing it to my siblings when things get back to normal.

We also watched the Star Wars sequel trilogy this weekend and made Star Wars cookies.

Today was Easter so we got together with the family. Candy was passed out. Ham was eaten. Fiddler on the Roof was watched. It felt like a normal holiday. Normal is good, because normal is a rare thing these days.

Tonight it is snowing and I am staying up late to defend my new Gazebo. I'm afraid that the weight of the snow will collapse the canopy, so every twenty minutes I run out with a broom and extendable car scraper to clear it.

Tomorrow is Monday and it is back to working from home. A month into the epidemic and we are kind of settling into our new normal.

Life goes on. Seasons change and so do I.
Goodnight. Until next time.
